Students: Learn about your student representative candidates

Students can vote for their student representatives this May! On May 19-22, students in grades 6-12 will select Baltimore City’s next Student Commissioner and the Officers for the Associated Student Congress of Baltimore City (ASCBC). Candidates begin campaigning on Monday, May 5.

To learn more about the candidates, participate in the LIVE Town Hall on this Thursday, May 8, 6 - 7 p.m., check out a full voter guide on ASCBC’s website, and watch the candidate’s campaign videos on City Schools’ Youtube.

City Schools Fine Arts month

Celebrate City Schools Fine Arts Month

Come enjoy live performances from dance ensembles, choirs, concert bands, drumlines, and more on May 6, 7, and 8 in the North Avenue District Office lobby.

In addition, high schools with arts designations—including Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts, Baltimore Design School, Baltimore School for the Arts, and ConneXions—will showcase student artwork in a collaborative exhibit, Celebrating Arts Designated Schools, at the Guilford Gallery. Join us for an inspiring evening at the Youth Impact Jam, where we’ll celebrate the creativity, leadership, and vision of our amazing students! In collaboration with five local organizations, City Schools Youth Ambassadors have spent months identifying real challenges in their communities and developing innovative, student-led solutions using systems thinking.

Calling all middle and high school students: Enter the Chromebook wallpaper design contest 

Middle and high school students can design next school year’s Chromebook wallpaper! Artwork must be original; the deadline is Sunday, May 11, 2025! 

This year’s theme is “Art is for everyone.” The winning middle school category selection will be displayed on Chromebooks for pre-K through eighth grade, and the winning high school category selection will be displayed on high school Chromebooks.

ASCBC hosts Spring General Assembly and first-ever nominating convention

Baltimore City Public Schools' Associated Student Congress of Baltimore City held its final general assembly of the 2024-25 school year, which included its first nominating convention. The new process activates when more than three candidates run for any ASCBC position — a sign of the group's growth and students’ increasing investment in districtwide leadership.

Dr. Santelises celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week with surprise visits to schools

For Teacher Appreciation Week, Baltimore City Public Schools CEO Dr. Sonja Santelises made surprise visits to teachers at three of our schools: Dr. Susana Ibay (Middle Alternative Program), Dr. Editha Bardaquillo (Baltimore Polytechnic Institute), and Monica Padgett (Eager Street Academy). We are grateful for the incredible work our teachers do across the district everyday to teach, support, and push our students toward success both in and out of the classroom.
