Literacy coaches drive reading achievement gains in Baltimore City Public Schools

Each day, literacy coaches across Baltimore City Schools support teachers in improving student literacy. Since their addition to nearly all City Schools, Literacy Coaches have focused on strengthening students' reading and writing skills. This series highlights some of the dedicated literacy coaches helping both educators and students achieve success.

Gifted and Advanced Learning

The Gifted and Advanced Learning (GAL) programs at James McHenry Elementary/Middle School and KIPP Harmony Academy offer specialized curricula for students who demonstrate proficiency on the NNAT (Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test) taken in kindergarten. As Ms. Samuel explains in the video, GAL supports students with unique talents who may not excel in traditional reading and math tests. Pre-K and Kindergarten enrollment is now open. ASCBC Winter Assembly

The Associated Student Council of Baltimore City (ASCBC) hosted its Winter General Assembly on March 3, 2025. The student-led event featured workshops on topics like artificial intelligence, queer identity acceptance, bullying prevention, email etiquette, and time management. Students from elementary, middle, and high schools across the city attended. This video was produced with the City Schools Student Media Team.
